If you lost your paper manual (or never had one) you can usually go to the manufacturer's website and pick up an electronic copy. These are not the service manuals that trained technicians use, but they will often, ever the simple, upgrades such as adding RAM or swapping out a hard drive.

Spare parts providers abound on the Internet. For common parts, such as RAM and hard drives, you can go to just about any vendor. But modems, wireless cards, and other items may be harder to find, and it helps to go to the companies that supply the notebook manufacturers ...
