How Long Will the New Main Battery Power the Laptop?

Battery run-time on a laptop is difficult to determine. Actual battery running time depends upon the power demands made by the equipment. The use of the screen, the hard drive and other accessories results in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing its running time. The total run-time of the battery is also dependent upon the design of the equipment. Setting up the power management properly and understanding the way your laptop uses the power will allow you to get the most out of a battery. For instance using the machine to watch a DVD movie or to play a Music CD will greatly reduce the amount of time that you can use you laptop.

The duration of the battery depends on a few factors besides the usage and the power managements.

  • Voltage: You can not and should not replace a battery for a different voltage battery other than what the manufacturer of the laptop recommends
  • APH / MAH  (Amps Per Hour/ Milli-Amps per Hour ): The APH/MAH is the most important characteristic on the battery. Some laptops and laptop manufactures offer several versions of the same battery with different APH/MAH ratings. The simplify the explanation what you really need to know is that lower amps means less duration on the battery. For instance if you have an option of a battery rated at 2700mah versus a 4000mah battery get the 4000mah. The reason that some generic batteries are so cheap compared to original batteries is that they usually have less MAH ( Thats why the do not tell you about it ). At Impact Computers 98% of the batteries are original and not generic versions. (2% are generic because the original manufacturer no longer makes the battery.
  • Number of Cells: Basically its the same as APH / MAH exept that some manufacturers do not lit the APH/MAH rating but they list the number of cells. It would look like 8 Cell battery versus a 12 Cell Battery. (take the one that has more cells
